A sermon is won in the intricacy of language or the brilliance of an idea. Preaching is an art, not a science. And a sermon I think is won sometimes through using exactly the right language to capture a thought or a transition. Well shaped sentences that capture the imagination or challenge one's thinking can often be what sticks and transforms. For example "Look for the beauty".
But likewise so can the brilliance of an idea. When an idea is brilliant, it is often not constrained by the language we use but by the power it holds. For example "God expands his kingdom by loving people into it".
What is important is that the sermon wins it's place in someone's thinking about the world, God and their place in both!
